State Debt Woes Grow Too Big to Camouflage
Interesting article on the state of debt in the States. Of course who woulda thunk that they were trying to hide the reality.

There is a very fundamental difference between household budgets and government budgets. Household budgets HAVE TO WORK. Local and state legislatures can ask and beg for money from higher level government purse holders. When the highest of the purse holders, the US Congress, has no such safety net, they can print money. Along with these methods, each has the added recourse of changing accounting methods and reporting, taking money from here and there for the current budget bookcooking, and raising direct and new taxes.

Nobody should be surprised that "new" problems are now being reported, for the new problems are simply the old problems made much more public by the new economic and budget environment in which they find themselves.

We still need to balance ours, regardless of what they do. Only now, it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so, and with the expiration of Bush's tax cuts come Jan.1-2011, we'll all see and feel each other's pains. It truly will be trickle-down poverty, at some level or another.
